Options for Rotational Grazing/Grass-based Dairy Systems
Project Period:
1 year 1994-09-01 - 1995-09-01
Principal Investigator:
Bryan Petrucci, CAE, and Shelburne Farms, Vermont
Description
CAE helped plan the first conference on rotational grazing in September 1994. A follow-up conference was held in 1995 to obtain input from farmers in comparing the costs of grass-based and conventional dairies. The conference participants concluded that grass-based dairy systems may offer an economically and environmentally viable alternative for farmers near residential subdivisions, wildlife refuges or wetlands and streams.
Outcomes
Workshop and background materials for participants. The grass-based farming work later merged with the donation of Cove Mountain Farm into AFT’s Farm Division.
